Polytechnic is a course designed for the students to give them practical and hands-on training in the field of engineering and technology. It is a three year diploma program offered in various specializations including Mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, Information technology, biotechnology, chemical engineering and many more. Polytechnic can be done after completion of 10th or 12th. For students who have completed their 12th or equivalent, they can opt for lateral entry in 2nd year. Duration of polytechnic can be 2 or 3 years depending on the specialization and qualification. Fees of polytechnic range between INR 33,000 to INR 2,20,000 for the full program depending on the institution.

Eligibility criteria : 

Polytechnic can be done after completion of high school (10th) or intermediate (10+2) with subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics from a recognized board. Minimum score in qualifying examination should be 50% or 45% for reserved category students. Besides that , students need to pass the entrance examination conducted by the state technical board. Some of the institutions conduct their own entrance examinations. To  get a lateral entry, students should have completed their 10+2  or equivalent from a recognized board with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology.


Polytechnic Fees in India : 

Fees of polytechnic courses vary considerably in India. Fee depends on the institution, whether it is a government college or a private college. Government colleges offer the courses at a lower cost, whereas Private colleges may offer the course with the same specialization  at a higher cost. Government colleges' polytechnic fee can be between INR 30,000 to INR 50,000 for the full course depending on the specialization. Private college’s fees can be between INR 90,000 to INR 2,50,000 for the full course depending on the specialization. 


Admission Process : 

The admission process of Polytechnic include following steps : 

  1. First step in the admission process is to apply for the state-level entrance exam conducted by the state technical board.

  2. After appearing for the examination, students have to appear for the counseling process, where students get a chance to lock their college choices after paying a certain amount of counseling fee.

  3. After being shortlisted by an institute, students get a notification from the college.

  4. Pay the admission fee and book your seat.
